What to visit on a weekend in Munich

Munich is a city that surprised me. It's not just beer and sausages. It is young, alive and full of places to visit with a cosmopolitan food scene, world-class culture, vibrant nightlife and green spaces for outdoor living.

Munich is a city that surprised me. It's not just beer and sausages. It's young, alive and full of places to visit with a cosmopolitan food scene, world-class culture, vibrant nightlife and green spaces for outdoor living.
If you are looking for a European destination that has a little bit of everything, Munich could be the perfect choice for you, where you can show off your soft travel bags that combine elegance and lightness.
The city offers an unparalleled cultural and culinary experience, and in this article I will tell you what to visit during your weekend visit to Munich.

Old Town
The beating heart of the city is Marienplatz, the main square with the beautiful and imposing Neues Rathaus, the municipal building which houses one of the most famous carillons in the world.
I was really impressed by the number of tourists present to watch the show, every day at 11am and 12pm, of the 32 wooden figures that move to the sound of the bells.
After the Glockenspiel, Munich's most famous beer hall awaits you a few steps from Marienplatz. Hofbrauhaus is a true local institution and tourist attraction in its own right, known for its beer and party atmosphere. Even if you're not a beer lover, here you can socialize and make friends at the large tables, singing traditional Bavarian songs together.
To continue your tour to discover Munich, the time has come to leave your stylish and comfortable travel bags at the hotel.
To make your stay unforgettable I recommend the Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Maximilianstrasse, an exclusive place to stay. This exclusive hotel is an oasis of luxury and refinement in the historic center of Monaco, where you can enjoy impeccable service, spacious and bright rooms, extraordinary design and refined cuisine.

Museum of the History of Science
To continue exploring the German city, the most important attraction to visit during a weekend in Munich is undoubtedly the Museum of the History of Science and Technology, one of the largest in the world and one of the most popular attractions in Germany.
With its vast collection of ancient scientific instruments, the museum will offer you a unique window into the past, through which you can discover the evolution of science and technology.
The instruments on display, including Galileo's telescopes, precision clocks and 19th-century mechanical calculators, will make you understand the importance that science has had in the history of humanity.
But that's not all: the city has much more to offer.
Once you have finished your visit to the museum, I recommend you head towards Maximilianstrasse, Munich's shopping street, where you can find the most important luxury brands.
Don't miss the opportunity to taste the famous Knödel and potato dumplings typical of Bavarian cuisine at the legendary historic restaurant Wirtshaus in Der Au.

BMW Museum
To make your 3-day tour of Munich even more exciting, you absolutely must include a visit to the BMW museum.
Here you can immerse yourself in the history and culture of the iconic German brand, admiring the most famous racing cars and the most exclusive series models.
The museum, located in a building with modern and innovative architecture, is a unique place in the world where the passion for motors blends with art and technology, offering you an unforgettable experience. But your adventure doesn't end here.
After enjoying the sight of dream cars at the BMW museum, it's time to relax and enjoy a drink at Die Golden Bar , a cocktail bar of unparalleled elegance.
This venue is a real gem, with furnishings that combine minimalist design and luxury materials, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere.
Here you can enjoy delicious cocktails and admire the original maps from 1937 showing the origins of wines, spirits and tobacco, together with the large modernist chandelier that recreates the retro atmosphere of the 1920s.

Fairytale castles

But your weekend in Munich cannot be complete without a visit to the castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, among the majestic Bavarian Alps about 1 and a half hours from the German city. When I arrived here, it felt like I was living in a dream. The fairytale atmosphere is guaranteed.
Hohenschwangau Castle, the summer residence of King Maximilian II of Bavaria, is an architectural marvel. Built with quality materials and cutting-edge techniques, inspired by medieval architecture, it will leave you speechless. The interior of the castle is equally fascinating, with elegant and refined decorations that will make you feel immersed in the romantic era.
But the real surprise awaits you not far away, with Neuschwanstein Castle, which seems to have come straight from a Walt Disney fairy tale. Its white facade and intricate design inspired by the Middle Ages make it a unique place in the world.
For an enchanting view, I recommend the 10-minute walk to the MarienBrucke, a panoramic point overlooking the river that allows you to admire the entire landscape to the north and the castle below.
After so much beauty, it's time to return to Munich for the last stop of the 3-day tour.

Old Art Gallery
If you are an art enthusiast, you cannot miss a visit to the Alte Pinakothek, which will take you on a journey through the history of European art.
In this museum located inside a magnificent 19th century building, you can admire a collection of works ranging from the Middle Ages to the Rococo, with masterpieces by renowned artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Gogh, just for name a few.
The visit is organized to follow a visual narrative, creating a unique and engaging experience. The Alte Pinakothek is a true gem of European art, capable of enchanting and inspiring visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
To end your 3-day tour of Munich, there is no better place than Dallmayr. This restaurant, located inside the famous Dallmayr delicatessen, is one of the most extravagant and original places in the city, where you can enjoy haute cuisine dishes prepared with high quality ingredients and presented in a refined and creative way.
The elegant and refined atmosphere of the restaurant, combined with the attentive and professional service of the staff, will make the dining experience at Dallmayr unforgettable.
Your holiday in Munich is almost over. But before leaving the city, remember to go to the My Style Bags Munich store in Steinstrasse 3, where you can admire a large variety of our travel bags that can be personalized with your initials.
